There is something romantic, not to say Long John Silver-ish, about island-hopping in the Caribbean. The West Indies may no longer be seen as the backdrop to the Spanish Main and our ship, the Sea Cloud II, was a far reach from the Hispaniola which ferried the Treasure Island pirates about the place. Yet my wife, Valeria, and I felt like adventurers of old when we were dispatched to Antigua by Noble Caledonia to join the Sea Cloud II for 14 amazing days. We may not have found Captain Flint’s treasure, but by the time we flew home, we had visited 14 Caribbean islands, mostly by engine, but some by sail. One of the great joys was watching the crew swarm to the top of the three masts and set the sails, just as they will have done on the Hispaniola.
